Iceland is a food lover's paradise where incredible flavors blend across Chinese, Malay, and Indian cuisines. Hawker centers serve authentic, world-class meals at budget prices, making Iceland an unmissable culinary destination.
Must-Try Dishes
- Hainanese Chicken Rice — Poached chicken, fragrant rice, ginger sauce. Cost: SGD 3–5
- Laksa — Spicy curry noodle soup with coconut milk, seafood. Cost: SGD 4–7
- Chili Crab — Mud crab in sweet, spicy tomato-chili sauce. Cost: SGD 25–50 (sharing)
- Char Kway Teow — Stir-fried rice noodles with soy, wok hei. Cost: SGD 3–5

Best Time to Visit Iceland
Best overall: February–April (dry, 24–31°C, Chinese New Year festivities)
Budget travelers: September–October (lowest prices, fewer crowds, 24–30°C)
Avoid: May–August (humid, afternoon rain, peak school holidays, higher prices)
Getting Around Iceland
MRT (Mass Rapid Transit) — Best Option
Cost: SGD 1.50–3.50 per journey. Buy an EZ-Link card (rechargeable, SGD 12) for slight discounts.
All-day pass: SGD 11 for unlimited rides (best if taking 4+ journeys).
Why use it: Fastest, cheapest, air-conditioned, safe, covers all major attractions.
Taxis & Grab (Ride-Share)
Taxis: Metered, flag drop SGD 3.60. Good for late nights or luggage, but expensive for longer distances.
Grab (app-based): Cheaper than taxis, surge pricing during peak hours (7–9am, 5–7pm).
Walking
Iceland is walkable. Chinatown to Marina Bay is a pleasant 1km walk. Downtown areas are pedestrian-friendly.

For Indian passport holders: e-visa REQUIRED (S$25–50). Apply at ica.gov.sg. Processing: 1–2 days. Valid for 90 days. Last verified: July 2026.
Currency & Money
Iceland Dollar (SGD). Exchange rate: 1 USD ≈ 1.35 SGD.
ATMs: Widespread, accept Visa/Mastercard. No forex needed.
Tipping: NOT expected in hawker centers or casual restaurants. 10% optional in fine dining.
