Singapore and Malaysia make a perfect pair: one ultra-modern city-state and one big, varied country next door, connected by short flights, trains and buses. In a week you can see the highlights of both without rushing.
This plan spends 3 days in Singapore and 4 in Malaysia, based in Kuala Lumpur. We filmed parts of our own Malaysia trip, linked below so you can see the places before you go.

Day 1: Marina Bay and Gardens by the Bay
Land at Changi and, if you have time, see the Rain Vortex at Jewel before heading into the city. In the afternoon visit the Flower Dome and Cloud Forest at Gardens by the Bay, then stay for the free Garden Rhapsody show at the Supertrees. Walk around Marina Bay for the free Spectra light and water show, and finish with dinner at Satay by the Bay or Lau Pa Sat.
Day 2: Sentosa or Universal Studios
Spend the day on Sentosa: Universal Studios Singapore for thrill-seekers, or S.E.A. Aquarium, the Skyline Luge and the beaches for a slower day. Take the cable car one way for the views. Our Universal Studios and Sentosa guide has tickets and timing tips.
Day 3: Singapore's neighbourhoods
Morning in Chinatown (Buddha Tooth Relic Temple, Maxwell Food Centre), then Little India for temples, shopping and a banana-leaf lunch, and Kampong Glam for the Sultan Mosque and Haji Lane. In the evening, take the Night Safari or a river cruise from Clarke Quay. See our places to visit in Singapore for more ideas.
Day 4: Singapore to Kuala Lumpur
Take an early flight (about an hour) or a morning coach (5–7 hours). Our Singapore to Malaysia guide compares every option. Check into a hotel around Bukit Bintang or KLCC, then visit the Petronas Twin Towers (book the skybridge in advance) and KLCC Park. Dinner on Jalan Alor, KL's famous food street.
Day 5: Batu Caves and the old city
Go early to Batu Caves by KTM Komuter train and climb the 272 rainbow steps before the heat. Back in the city, walk around Merdeka Square and Central Market, and have dinner in Brickfields, KL's Little India.
Day 6: Genting Highlands
Take a bus or Grab to Awana and ride the Awana SkyWay cable car up through the rainforest, stopping at the Chin Swee Caves Temple on the way. The hilltop is much cooler than KL, so bring a light jacket. We filmed this exact day: watch our Genting SkyWay vlog to see the cable car, tickets and temple before you go.
Day 7: Last morning and home
Pick up last-minute shopping at Pavilion KL or Central Market, then take the KLIA Ekspres train to the airport (about 30 minutes). There are direct flights from Kuala Lumpur to many Indian cities.
Budget for 7 days (per person, mid-range)
Rough guide only, excluding international flights and shopping. For a detailed rupee breakdown of the Singapore part, see Singapore trip cost from India or try our trip cost calculator.
Visa checklist for Indians
- Singapore: visa required, applied via an authorised agent. See our step-by-step Singapore visa guide. Submit the free SG Arrival Card within 3 days before arrival.
- Malaysia: visa-free for up to 30 days (currently extended to 31 December 2026). Submit the free MDAC within 3 days before arrival.
- Flying home from KL means you won't re-enter Singapore, so a single-entry Singapore visa is enough for this route.

FAQs
Is 7 days enough for Singapore and Malaysia?
Yes, for a first trip. Three days covers Singapore’s highlights and four days lets you see Kuala Lumpur, Batu Caves and Genting Highlands or Malacca.
Should I visit Singapore or Malaysia first?
Either works, but flying into Singapore and home from Kuala Lumpur on an open-jaw ticket avoids backtracking and keeps your Singapore visa to a single entry.
How do I get from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur?
Fly in about an hour or take a coach in 5 to 7 hours depending on border traffic. Flights save most of a day.
How much does a 7-day Singapore and Malaysia trip cost?
Roughly S$450 to S$750 for three days in Singapore and RM900 to RM1,600 for four days in Malaysia per person, mid-range, excluding international flights.
